We delivered a masterplan to Upper Hutt City Council after consulting with the many clubs and organisations impacted by potential works at Maidstone Park. We were then asked to deliver further design development of the collective facilities within the park.
The centrepiece of the park’s redevelopment is a community facility made up of a grandstand, new shared clubrooms, multi use spaces, and a publicly accessible ’greenroom’ (i.e. a gymnasium space with artificial turf flooring). The plans also include amenities to support the new building and nearby rugby fields.
S&T worked closely with the council’s project delivery team, delivering presentations to the councillors, and providing an overarching risk register to enable better management of the project during both design and construction.
Primary considerations for the council relate to public perception and the ability for a number of sports to utilise the facilities but not be limited to these founding tenants should other sports want to use the facilities in future.
Jointly funded by Upper Hutt City Council and the Government’s Covid infrastructure recovery fund, this transformational project is targeting completion by the end of 2023.
