Fowlds Park is a multi-use rugby and netball playing area located in Mount Albert.
Auckland Council needed a lighting solution that was appealing to both sports players and local residents, functional, and in keeping with the lush, green environment.
S&T decided on a tapered round pole with a cured outreach arm (mimicking a tree branch), with lights stepped out under this branch. Phillips Optivision LED lights adorned these ‘branches’ with a 30° asymmetric beam.
The pole fits in perfectly with the surrounding mature trees and landscape, having been painted in a Permanent Green to complete the camouflage.
The LED lighting design efficiently illuminates the three rugby league fields and two netball courts, while mitigating obtrusive light spill and glare to nearby dwellings.
Auckland Council can remotely manage the lights via IRRInet irrigation and lighting control. This allows them to control each pole to dictate which part of a field is to be lit, depending on needs. The control system also provides automatic curfew switch off at 9.30pm, with selected lights remaining on for a further 15 minutes to allow people to safely exit the area.
